The International Society of Ocular Oncology (ISOO) conference took place in PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort, Convention Centre & Spa, Mombasa Kenya Between the 20th and 23rd August 2023. This was historical since it is the first time that the ISOO Congress has been hosted in Africa.

The International Society of Ocular Oncology (ISOO) conference took place in PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort, Convention Centre & Spa, Mombasa Kenya Between the 20th and 23rd August 2023. This was historical since it is the first time that the ISOO Congress has been hosted in Africa.
The Department of Ophthalmology was well represented by various academic staff who participated in the organizing committee and task forces, presented papers and moderated sessions. These included Dr Kahaki Kimani, Dr Stephen Gichuhi and Dr Lucy Njambi.
We also displayed an example of inter-departmental collaboration between the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) with speakers from the Department of Human Pathology (Dr Wairimu Waweru) and Kenyatta National Hospital Pathology Department (Dr Timothy Onyuma) presenting research work jointly conducted with UON.
Also among the delegates were a number of MMed Ophthalmology residents, Kenyatta Hospital Ophthalmology Consultants and 2 nurses from ward 1C, the eye ward at Kenyatta Hospital (Wilson Githinji and Esther Mwania).
