Abstract
ABSTRACT Introduction and background: Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness andthe secondleadingcauseof blindness in Africa and worldwide. Its management involves the use of medications andsurgery. Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty(SLT)has recently been initiatedin Burundi at KibuyeHope Hospital (KHH). Being cost effective, SLT would alleviate some of the obstacles in the management of glaucoma. No study has so far been conducted on indications and outcomes of SLTin Burundi. Objective:To determine the indications, outcomes, complications and factors affecting outcomes of SLT at KHH-Eye Unit.Study design: Retrospective case seriesStudy population:All glaucoma, ocular hypertensive patients, and glaucoma suspects who will have SLT done at KHH-Eye Unit from 1stJune 2019to 1stJune2020.Data management and analysis:Datacollectionwill bedone using coded forms, storedin a lockable cabinetor in a computer protected with a password for electronic ones.Frequencies of valuableswill be determined using descriptive analysis for the indications and student’s t-testfor the outcomes. The outcomepredictors will be analyzedusing descriptive analysis, student’s t-test and univariate regression analysis. Frequencies and valuables will be presented in appropriate graphs and tables. At last, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences(SPSS)softwarewill be utilized to carry outstatistical analysis.
