Orthoptics training held to enhance skills

Visiting lecturers from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany with their hosts from the University of Nairobi pose for a photo during the orthoptics training.

 A week long orthoptics training has kicked off at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Nairobi.

The training will take place between 9th to 13 November, 2019.

There are visiting lecturers from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany who include Birgit Reindl, an orthoptist and teacher for orthoptic students, Simone Reipner, Orthoptist and Lisa Kast who is also an Orhoptist. 

The local lectures from the University of Nairobi include Dr. Margret Njuguna and Dr. Lucy Njambi. Among the scheduled activities include, lectures and orthoptic assessment of patients at the paediatric clininc, Kenyatta National Hospital.

Postgraduate students in the Department of Ophthalmology who are also attending the workshop will be equipped with skills in assessment of patients with strabismus/ squint and improve the management of the condition after the training.
