Dr. Stephen Gichuhi was honoured to meet Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace. This was in recognition of his research work especially his PHD project on Ocular Surface Squamous Neoplasia.
Her Majesty the Queen invited Dr. Gichuhi to a reception at the palace on Tuesday 29 October, 2019.
The invitation was meant to celebrate the achievements of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust in improving eye health across the Commonwealth countries, in which Dr. Gichuhi played an important part.
The trust funded his postdoctoral research fellowship conducting work on ocular surface squamous neoplasia in Kenya.
At the function were also other alumni of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Nairobi, College of Health Sciences namely Dr. Hilary Rono, Dr. Abba Hydara and Dr. Ibrahim Matende.
Earlier on Dr. Gichuhi and other invited guests were hosted by the Rt. Hon Lord Robertson of Port Ellen, a trustee of the Trust, at the House of Lords to welcome them to the UK. Sir John Major, former UK Prime Minister was present.
There were also meetings of the Lancet Commission for Global Eye Health in which Dr. Gichuhi serves as Commissioner preparing a report that will be launched in 2020.
