Dr Stephen Gichuhi graduated with a PhD from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine on 6th March 2017. His thesis was on “The Epidemiology and Management of Ocular Surface Squamous Neoplasia (OSSN) in Kenya”.
The PhD project consisted of the following

i) the epidemiology of OSSN in Africa
The department of ophthalmology held a curriculum review stakeholders meeting at the Silver springs Hotel on the 19th November 2015. The meeting brought together the academic staff, students representatives, NGO representatives, alumni, Government representatives and representatives of private eye hospitals in a forum to revise the current Masters of Medicine in Ophthalmology curriculum.

Staff and students from the department of Ophthalmology participated in a successiful outreach in Isiolo between 9 and 18 November 2015. More that 21 sight restoring surgeries were performed with more tha 100 patients seen in the outpatient department
A team of doctors from the Department of Ophthalmology completed a successiful eye camp at Mwingi general hospital held between 14 and 16 September 2015. A total of 43 sight restoring surgeries (mainly catact surgeries) were performed. More than 100 patients were attended to at the outpatient facility.
