Professor Jefitha Karimurio of the Department of Ophthalmology of University of Nairobi has been appointed as a member of the experts committee to facilitate and guide efforts towards the elimination of priority Neglected Tropical Diseases in Kenya by 2022. The expert committee was established by the Cabinet Secretary for Health established via gazette notice 8059 of 10 August 2019. Inauguration of the committee was conducted by the Cabinet Secretary on 14.02.2019 during launch of the National Breaking Transmission Strategy (BTS) for soil-transmitted helminthiasis, schistosomiasis, lymphatic filariasis and trachoma in in Meru County on 14th February 2019. Professor Karimurio is an expert in trachoma elimination and he will serve as an expert committee member for a period of five years.
